We know a lot of people that are considering a solar panel system. Our family has been thinking of adding solar energy at our home, so we have done some research on the pro's and cons.

To make the right decision for your home, you need to be able to distinguish between the real pros and cons of solar energy and the solar myths that are sometimes communicated in the media. Is solar a smart long-term investment that can reduce your carbon footprint? Absolutely – Some of the pros are- It can drastically reduce or totally eliminate your electric bills.  A solar panel system typically has a 25-30 year lifespan, which means that you can cut your electricity costs for decades to come by going solar. It also improves the value of your home, and reduces the carbon footprint of your home.

Some of the cons are it doesn't fit every roof type, the panels can be expensive, and it is not ideal if you are going to move soon. We found it can be very confusing, and it seems to be hard to find qualified professionals to install the system.

As with any high ticket item, homeowners should get at least 3 estimates in order to save the maximum amount of money for your solar system. And at last, there are many huge incentives and tax breaks if you add solar energy. All in all it seems to be the right thing to do in Texas!
